Sunday Feb 12: Valdy @ Southwood United Church
Just announced Canada’s most beloved musician and Troubadour — Valdy — is named as one of 35 Canadians to become a Member of the Order of Canada at a ceremony at Government House in Ottawa later this year.
The official announcement states Valdy was given the honour for his achievements as a folk musician and for his support of charitable causes.
A very justified honour for someone who has been entertaining us for years.

Friday Mar 23: The Burns Sisters & The Brian Ashley Jones Duo

You can think about the Burns Sisters in descriptive terms – powerful songs,gorgeous sibling harmony, a distinctive blend of folk, country, and rock styles — but their essence is spirit, soul, if you will. Marie, Jeannie and Annie Burns sing together and their music follows an inner path they know by heart. Every song is tied to the center of things, to the everyday hunt for warmth on a cold planet, to family and history and blood.
Brian Ashley Jones is a soulful singer, accomplished guitarist, and versatile touring Americana songwriter whose songs have been placed in film and television and recorded by other artists.
Jones' music is influenced by the guitar-driven Blues, Country, Bluegrass, and Swing that he absorbed in his hometown, Spartanburg, South Carolina. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Jones performs about 150 live shows per year at festivals, concert series, radio and TV stations, and songwriter venues. In February 2010, footage of Jones performing at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, TN appeared in the major British network TV show "Amanda Holden's Fantasy Lives". The Brian Ashley Jones Duo were official performers at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and have opened multiple sold out shows for Delbert McClinton in 2008/2009.

She could well be writing about her personal artistic complexities. Music pundits have tried to define the essence of the prairie-born acoustic performer for over two decades, but even the most eloquent have fallen short of perfection.
